Pleasant Hill Memorial plans music and ice cream Sunday afternoon

The observance of Memorial Day in Greene County will begin Sunday, May 28, at Pleasant Hill Memorial in Grant Township.

The Pleasant Hill Memorial Committee, which oversees the maintenance and programming at historic Pleasant Hill Church, will host a Memorial Day Weekend homecoming event at 4 pm.

Jed Magee of Jefferson will continue in the footsteps of the late Wallace Teagarden by reciting President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.

The Greene County Singers and the Town and Country Band will provide musical selections. A highlight will be the two groups performing together the Peter J. Wilhousky arrangement of “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” the same arrangement performed every year at the Iowa All State Music Festival.

The Town & Country Band and the Greene County Singers rehearsed together last week in preparation for their rendition “Battle Hymn of the Republic”. Victoria Anderson directs the band and Sheilah Pound directs the Singers.

The Rippey American Legion will conduct a salute to fallen heroes.

Ice cream sundaes and bars will be served as a fundraiser for Pleasant Hill Memorial. 

Pleasant Hill Memorial is located on Redwood Ave. From County Road P-30 (Q Ave) turn east onto Redwood Ave. The road turns south at the top of the hill; Pleasant Hill Memorial is on the west side of the road.
